Men face a unique set of challenges that is not addressed in mainstream nutrition circles. While much attention has been paid to women’s issues, men also face a host of health issues as the result of hormone imbalances. Serious issues such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, vision loss and arthritis along with other complaints such as weight gain, headaches, insomnia, heartburn and loss of libido are just a few of the issues faced by men today. While symptoms may be common, they are not normal. Symptoms are a sign that the body is breaking down and heading toward a state of disease. While most programs focus on eating a bounty of healthful, meats, vegetables, fruits and fats, such efforts to eat well rarely last more than a week. At Restoration Nutrition we begin with functional lab testing to uncover hidden stressors and correct nutritional deficiencies to address health concern.
Maintaining Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the body’s ability to maintain equilibrium and adapt to a changing environment. The body strives to establish balance through dynamic adaptation and a variety of biochemical reactions. When the body fails to achieve homeostasis, symptoms begin to appear such as digestive complaints, headaches and fatigue. Rather than just addressing symptoms through self-medication such as antacids, aspirin or caffeine, I look to identify healing opportunities by using functional lab testing to identify malfunctions at the subclinical level. It is not used to diagnose, but rather used to educate and uncover how well the body is functioning.
What are Causal Factors?
This process focuses on investigating and handling causal factors. Causal factors include external factors such as mental and emotional stress, lack of sleep and exposure to toxic compounds. Casual factors also include internal stressors such as hormone imbalances, infections as well as detoxification and digestion problems. This process looks at malfunctions in the hormone steroid balance (hormone, immune, digestion, and detoxification) at the subclinical level. Rather than just looking to treat symptoms and intervene once someone has reached a state of disease, we find malfunctions overlooked by your traditional health programs.
A Better Way to Treat Symptoms
Traditional health care focuses on symptom relief (i.e., pills and surgery). Such relief care only works for so long and the symptoms may come back even stronger. Unfortunately, pure relief care does not take into consideration bodily malfunctions and disease processes. Many people chase their symptoms rather than looking at the root cause. Symptoms may be considered common but are not normal. They are a signal that something is wrong and the last thing to happen in the disease process. If there is disease there is malfunction. Without looking for the hidden stressors that cause malfunctions it is difficult to restore homeostasis. We focus on the underlying causes of disease while providing intelligent relief care rather than chasing symptoms.
